Recruiting Bridge and Traffic Engineers (PE) for a Civil Engineering Firm
The Client
The Client is a civil engineering consulting firm located in Columbia, SC providing a variety of engineering services with an emphasis on transportation projects, including Hydraulics, Roadway Design, Bridge Design, Project Management, Traffic Studies, Environmental, Utility Coordination and Construction Management/Monitoring and Inspection. Since its inception in 1993, the Client has been providing engineering services to state, county, city, and local governments and private sector clients. The Client has also been working on the most important transportation projects in South Carolina.
The Client has been recognized by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of South Carolina for multiple Engineering Excellence Awards.
The Problem/Opportunity: The Client had to fill two positions:
- The first one required a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with experience in bridge design and a working experience with the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT)
- The second position required a traffic engineer with a PE license
Challenges
- Limited pool of candidates: The requirements for both positions were specific, and the Client had difficulty finding candidates who met them.
- Salary constraints: The salary offered by the Client for both positions was less than what candidates with PE licenses were asking for, making it challenging to attract qualified applicants
