The Client 

The Client is a structural engineering and construction firm with over 20 years of experience operating in the West Coast region, primarily in California. They specialize in residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects, including highway and bridge construction and multi-family apartment developments. Their expertise spans structural design and construction across various materials and systems, including steel, concrete, post-tensioned concrete, masonry, wood, precast components, retaining walls, and soil/slope stabilization structures. 

The Problem/Opportunity 

The Client required 3D structural modeling support for a trench shoring system project (trench boxes) but did not have in-house capabilities to meet the demand. With construction already underway and delivery timelines in place, they partnered with us to fulfill the modeling and detailing needs within a tight schedule. The project requirements included:
  • Develop 3D models of trench shoring systems in Revit Structure 
  • Model various configurations and lengths of trench boxes (20 in total) 
  • Draft sectional details for each configuration as per county regulations 
  • Submit one set of trench box models and drawings daily, aligned with the construction progress 
The Challenge:  The main challenge was to produce fully detailed models based on limited structural input while adhering to a daily submission schedule, all during active construction. 

Our Solution 

Our Building Information Modelling (BIM) team quickly mobilized to analyze the provided PDF drawings and extract the necessary design information. Despite limited inputs, we translated the data into accurate 3D models in Revit, meeting the Client’s specifications.  We delivered fully coordinated trench shoring system models along with construction-ready sectional details for each configuration—on time and aligned with the site schedule. These detailed deliverables provided clear, actionable guidance for on-site teams, enabling smooth execution and ensuring the project stayed on track.

Our solution reduced coordination errors, accelerating documentation timelines, and ensuring on-schedule delivery through accurate Revit modeling and streamlined BIM workflows. This improved the Client's planning and construction efficiency while minimizing costly rework. As a result, the Client extended our engagement for six months, assigning us additional residential and commercial projects—reinforcing our role as a trusted partner for structural and civil design support.
